The doorbell rang this evening

Annika starts school tomorrow.  I know, it's late.  That's ok though.  I got her for an extra two weeks then other parents!  We (as in she and I) are excited but a little sad as well.  I think we're going to miss each other.

I stumbled across this blog a couple of weeks ago, and read about the back-to-school fairy.  I thought it was such a great idea, so tonight, while Annika was having her bath, the doorbell rang.  I went to answer the door, but there was no one there!  This was standing on the doorstep though.

Annika was pretty excited and wanted to get out to see what was in the bag.  We opened it up and found.....

There was a letter explaining some of the items.

It reads:

Dear Annika,
How exciting that you are ready to start school!  I have a few things to share with you before you start....

First, here is a new outfit for your first day of school!!  I liked two shirts, so you can choose which one you want to wear!  I hope you like the outfit.

The tiny blankets are for you to put in your pocket, so when you feel lonely or sad, you know your "blanky" is with you.

The stickers are for you to share with a special friend that you will meet!  You will be making new friends this year - how fun!  Remember to always BE a good friend to others.

It is important to listen to your teacher when she is talking.  She cares for you and has lots to teach you.
You are a friendly girl and will make many friends, I'm sure.  Remember to share with others and listen to others - others will share with you too.
Always remember....your Mommy and Daddy and family love you and are very proud of you.
Have LOTS of fun at school and learn well.

The back to school fairy

There was also a bag in there for her library books.  She was thrilled when she saw the A on it because "Mom, my name starts with A!"  She also said, "Now you don't have to make me one!"  Such a thoughtful kid!

Her alarm is set, her lunch is made, I think we're ready....we'll see how we do tomorrow when I have to drop her off!

  2. What a great idea. I know she will do great and you will be fine. Letting go is a tough job for parents but when you let your baby grow, the soar and have the chance to e the amazing kids, God wants them to be.
